Abstrait Liquide
> Exhibition & Vernissage
The Alliance Française is delighted to host “Abstrait Liquide” by Patricia Lortie.
Her work — including installations, paintings, sculptures, and videos — explores the body’s connection to natural ecosystems, blending the real and the unconscious to reveal a poetic sensibility.
“Abstrait Liquide” is a series of acrylic paintings inspired by the movement of natural water systems. Filmed above and below the surface, subtle ripples, reflections, and light guide each brushstroke. The works capture fleeting moments of water, inviting reflection on nature’s rhythms and patterns.
The exhibition will be on view from September 9 to October 6. We warmly invite you to the opening reception on September 19, where you can experience the spirit of the exhibition firsthand. Register below to join us!
About Patricia Lortie
Patricia Lortie is a Québec-born visual artist based in Calgary whose work spans painting, sculpture, installation, and art education. Trained in industrial design and business in Montréal, she later studied at the Alberta University of the Arts. Her art has been exhibited widely across Western Canada, with highlights including representing Alberta at the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad and creating The Keepers during a 2021 residency at the Kiyooka Ohe Arts Centre.
Rooted in direct immersion in natural systems—water, forests, beehives—her process is guided by the body, sensory memory, and a deep attentiveness to the rhythms of the living world. Using varied media, she seeks to evoke the poetic connections between humans and nature, exploring thresholds between the visible and invisible, movement and stillness, the intimate and the universal.
