Alliance Française of Calgary

Who are we?

In 1883, French visionaries like Louis Pasteur and Jules Verne created an association with the goal of sharing the French language and culture. After more than a century, these ideals live on in more than 800 Alliances Françaises around the world. Not only is this network the only language school recognized by the French government, but we are also recognized as one of the best places to interact with French culture!

This dream took root in Calgary in 1947 with the founding of the Alliance Française of Calgary (AFC). Since then, we have remained committed to promoting French language and culture, welcoming over 1,200 students each year who come to learn, connect, and immerse themselves in a vibrant Francophone environment. Beyond our classes, we offer a rich cultural program and access to the largest fully French library in Western Canada.
