Alliance Française of Calgary

Who are we?

In 1883, French visionaries like Louis Pasteur and Jules Verne created an association with the goal of sharing the French language and culture. After more than a century, these ideals live on in more than 800 Alliances Françaises around the world. Not only is this network the only language school recognized by the French government, but we are also recognized as one of the best places to interact with French culture!

This dream came to Calgary in 1947, when the Alliance Française of Calgary (AFC) was founded. The team of AF Calgary proudly continues on this mission, serving each of the 1,200 students that come every year to learn and have a good time with us in our classes and cultural events, as well as borrow books from the largest fully-French library in Western Canada.
