The Alliance Française of Calgary is proud to house one of the largest French libraries in Western Canada, with over 8,500 items covering multiple disciplines, including:

  • 900 DVDs with many great movies that are not available on popular platforms
  • 3,500 books for Kids & Teens, from baby books to YA literature
  • 3,500 books for Adults, from classics to contemporary literature
  • 500 resources in our learners' sections to help you study French 
  • 10 magazine subscriptions

We acquire new resources every month and members are invited to request what they would like to see available in our library!

While the media library is free to access, you must register as a member for borrowing privileges and to enjoy additional services.

Library Policies

Borrowing Limits

 Individual Members: Eligible to borrow up to 3 children's books, 3 adult books, 3 comic books, 3 DVDs, and 3 magazines at a time.

Family Members: Allowed to borrow up to 10 children's books, 5 adult books, 5 comic books, 5 DVDs, and 5 magazines at a time.

Borrowing Duration and Renewals

  • All members can borrow items for an initial period of three weeks.
  • Renewals are available for an additional three weeks, provided they are requested.
  • To renew items, members need to contact the Librarian either by phone or email.


Late Return Policy

  • Items are expected to be returned within the office hours by the due date.
  • Late returns, occurring more than 10 days after the due date, will incur a charge of $0.25 per day, per item.
  • Borrowing privileges will be suspended if an item is over 30 days late, and will be reinstated once the item is returned and all late fees are cleared.

Damaged or Lost Items

  • Members are responsible for reimbursing the library for any damaged or lost items, based on their replacement value.
  • If an item is not returned within 60 days after its due date, an invoice for replacement will be issued.
  • The member's account, including student accounts if applicable, will be locked until the replacement costs are paid.
